Background:
I grew up in a small farming community outside Lawrence, Kansas. My
family and I moved to a suburb of Kansas City where I graduated from high
school. I later graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a
degree in political science. While at the University of Colorado I focused my
studies on International Politics and U.S. Foreign Policy and became very
active in local and state democratic politics.
At the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law I specialized in
administrative and legislative law and in addition to a JD, I received a
"Certificate in Governmental Affairs." Since graduation, I have been a
consumer advocate and lobbyist in California and have worked on many
public policy issues such as consumer rights in telecommunications,
consumer rights against secret settlements and HMO / health insurance
reform. As a consumer advocate, I have worked before the California
legislature, various federal and state agencies and before the California Public
Utilities Commission.
As a private practice attorney, I have found I really enjoy representing
individuals against the overwhelming and impersonal bureaucracy of the
United States government. I have found it very rewarding guiding my clients
through difficult situations. I especially enjoy using my political science
knowledge and experience with healthcare issues. Whether my client is
facing deportation, wants to help a family member immigrate to the United
States, or needs my help getting social security benefits, I take the time to get
to know my clients and I fight hard for results.
